Democracy Fund is an independent foundation that invests in organizations working to ensure that our political system is able to withstand new challenges and deliver on its promise to the American people. We work on things that make democracy work better.
At the heart of our vision for the future are three core commitments: fostering more effective governance in the United States, modernizing our election and campaign finance systems, and strengthening our media and the public square to help people understand and participate in the democratic process. To date, we have committed more than $100 million in support of a healthy democracy.
Out of deep respect for the U.S. Constitution and our nation’s core democratic values, Democracy Fund was established by eBay founder and philanthropist Pierre Omidyar. Incubated inside Omidyar Network, the Democracy Fund launched as an independent foundation in 2014 and is based in Washington, D.C.

In response to a swell of interest, Democracy Fund is building a new team to expand its influence by activating a powerful network of philanthropic, political, and civic leaders. As such, Democracy Fund is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Partnerships Associate to join a new Philanthropic Partnerships team focused on attracting resources to support a more trustworthy, equitable, and resilient democracy.
As a founding member of the Partnerships team, the Associate will play a key role in executing the emerging strategy. The Associate will work with leaders across the organization to advise donors on strategic investments in nonprofits who strengthen our democracy. Specifically, the Associate will provide timely prospect research, coordinate high-caliber events, draft compelling collateral and proposals, and help manage a relationship database. The Associate will be a part of a growing Communications and Network team, and will report to the new Director of Partnerships. Together, the Partnerships Director and Associate will be responsible for producing a semi-annual retreat with Democracy Fund’s National Advisory Committee.
The successful applicant will have a growing record of success in fundraising, event planning, and/or partnerships. We are looking for a resourceful problem-solver who is eager to help build processes while seamlessly supporting incoming requests and opportunities. The Associate will thrive on collaboration, excel on a “start up” team, and have excellent, adaptable writing skills and the ability to connect across audiences.
