Communications and Network Internship, Spring 2020

POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for a smart, creative, and enthusiastic full-time intern to work with our Communications & Network team. In addition to supporting the organization’s outreach, network, and branding strategies, our work includes enhancing the influence of our grantees and program-related efforts among target audiences.

Interns are an integral part of our team and work on a variety of tasks critical to our communications strategy. Our Spring 2020 Intern will have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in brainstorming and strategizing sessions for communication and network products
  • Monitor, log, and analyze trends in organizational and grantee press coverage to build press lists and manage our database of national and state reporters
  • Collaborate with the team to plan and execute logistics for events and conferences, including communicating with participants, performing quality checks for event materials before distribution, and supporting other event work as needed
  • Research, fact check, and collect data for various products and presentations
  • Provide support for the Communications & Network team’s administrative needs, including scheduling meetings, product design and execution, and similar projects
  • Write and distribute a weekly update for the organization including status of ongoing projects and highlighting upcoming events

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Deep passion for strengthening American democracy

  • Candidates must be a college graduate or graduate student with an interest in, and knowledge of, the intersection of public policy, national politics, and journalism/media

  • Work full time (35-40 hours per week)

  • Enthusiastic, thirsty to learn, proactive, willing to try new things, and eager for feedback

  • Proficient proofreader, exceptional attention to detail

  • Excellent organizational, project planning, and time management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as with others in a collaborative, team environment

  • Professional in verbal and written communications, able to exercise good judgment

  • Willingness to work with leaders, advocates, and media from across the political spectrum
